Sunyani, Jan. 7, GNA – Jubilant supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the Bono Regional Office of the party to observe the live-telecast of the swearing-in of the President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his Vice Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang amid sporadic sparking of firecrackers.

The Regional executives of the party had earlier mounted a television set at the premises of the party office in Sunyani to enable the party supporters and members and a section of the public to watch the live telecast from the Black Star Square in Accra.

It was joy and happiness, as the highly excited viewers, mostly clad in NDC customised ‘T shirt’ and party paraphernalia and glued to the television set and sparked firecrackers intermittently, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed during a visit.

In an interview, some of the jubilant supporters told the GNA they were not only joyous about the NDC’s electoral victory in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections but were confident that the President Mahama’s government would ‘truly reset’ the nation.

“We believe in him, and we are truly convinced that it is only the President Mahama administration that can rebuild the nation and alleviate our plight,” Justice Ansu Gyeabour, one of the jubilant supporters stated.

The situation was also not different in parts of the regional capital as shop owners and traders also watched the live telecast at their shops and workplaces.

During a round visit at the Sunyani Central Business District, the GNA noticed that shop owners, traders and market women were glued to their television set to watch the live broadcast.

Meanwhile, a cross section of the public in the Sunyani Municipality said they anticipated a decrease in the high prices of petrol products, food, and commodities, import duties and as well as building materials under the new government.

Others also said they expected President Mahama to assent to the Anti-LGBTQ bill and strengthened the free Senior High School (FSHS) programme too.

“For me, what I expect from President Mahama is that his government fulfilled the 2024 campaign promises. We still remember the 24-hour economy and the establishment of the Women’s Bank initiative as promised by Mr Mahama”, Madam Mavis Addai, a trader indicated.
