Accra, Jan. 4, GNA – Alhaji Issah Musah Adams, the Founder, Support Life International, a non-profit organisation, has advised President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to adopt a modest swearing-in ceremony on January 7, given the country’s financial challenges.
In a ten-point recommendation letter addressed to the president-elect, Mr Adams suggested a small, dignified swearing-in at the Jubilee House, with a select group of stakeholders and diplomatic representatives in attendance, rather than an elaborate ceremony at the Black Star Square.
Emphasising fiscal prudence, he urged the new government to avoid lavish spending, consistent with Mr Mahama’s manifesto pledge, to save resources and promote fiscal responsibility.
Mr Adams proposed the establishment of a “National Day of Introspection and Civic Action” on March 6, each year, transforming the nation’s Independence Day celebrations into a day of renewal, reflection, and patriotism.
“Ghanaians should be encouraged to be patriotic citizens participating in community (cleaning) activities led by the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs),” he added.
The new administration, he recommended, should halt all new government vehicle purchases for the next four years and recover state assets, as a demonstration of commitment to responsible spending and ensuring financial discipline.
Mr Adams highlighted the need to tackle corruption and financial mismanagement through the establishment of special courts for economic crimes.
He called for a comprehensive audit of all projects initiated by the out-government, advocating the abrogation of inflated contracts and the resumption of abandoned projects to maximise returns.
To curb expenses, he recommended limiting internal travels and conferences by state officials, unless deemed essential, and encouraged the President-Elect to align his administration’s initiatives with the “Resetting Ghana” theme.
That, he noted, could unify every policy and communication, alongside stringent monitoring of public expenditure to ensure transparency and value for money, aimed at restoring public trust and fostering sustainable development.
“To President-elect Mahama, Ghanaians have given you their mandate to govern but with very high expectations. The degree of your responsiveness to their wishes and aspirations underpinned by your campaign promises, is a major step to your success,” Mr Adams said.
“The people need a transformative life, and your initial actions will set the tone for a successful administration.”
