Havedzi (VR), Jan 30, GNA – Florence Mensah Foundation, a development-oriented Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has donated sanitary pads to some female pupils of Havedzi AME Zion Basic school in the Keta municipality of the Volta Region.
According to the Foundation, the donation was aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and encouraging the girls to stay in school during their menstrual period without any challenges or excuses.
Miss Rebecca Osam, the Founder of the Florence Mensah Foundation, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the provision of sanitary pads were expected to alleviate the challenges faced by many young girls in the community who often missed school due to lack of access to the essential products.
“Last year we made the same donation here which we provided a sanitary pad to girls that would cater for six months, and we are here to complete the year sanitary pad initiative to help them for the next six months,” she said.
She explained that the initiative was part of the organisation’s efforts to support the education and well-being of underprivileged girls, and the foundation believed that every girl deserved to have access to quality education and healthcare regardless of where they found themselves.

Miss Osam also used the opportunity and educate the girls on the importance of menstrual hygiene and how to effectively use the sanitary pads as well as prioritise their health and well-being, and to seek help whenever they need it.
“Florence Mensah Foundation has been working in the Volta and other regions for several years, with support to vulnerable communities and we hope our efforts would impact positively and bring greater change in the young girls and we are ready to partner government or any association for greater initiative.”
She said that the organisation focused on education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, and has made a significant impact in the lives of many people in the region.
Mr Moses Mills-Tofa, the Headteacher of Havedzi AME school, commended the NGO for the donation of sanitary pads which indicated a testament to the foundation’s commitment to supporting the well-being and education of young girls.
He appealed to other organisation, philanthropists, and individuals to support and empower young girls in the region to make it possible to make a significant difference in the lives of many more girls and to create a brighter future for them.
Some beneficiaries GNA engaged expressed satisfaction and gratitude over the support which would play a significant role towards achieving a better personal hygiene during menstrual period and improve on their education.
GNA further gathered that Florence Mensah Foundation in collaboration with Reflo NGO were committed to continue major roles in various societies and impact positively in communities in the country.
