Minority in Parliament opposes lands Minister-Designate over refusal to apologise

Accra, Jan 29, GNA – The Minority in Parliament on Wednesday opposed the approval of Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources.

The opposition stems from Mr Buah’s refusal to retract or apologise for alleged comments he made about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address.

During his vetting, Mr Buah acknowledged his remarks were “not intended to offend” but rather reflected the prevailing circumstances.

However, he declined to issue a retraction or apology, citing “… Mr Chairman, I didn’t intend to offend the former President, but I was reflecting the circumstances at the time,” he said.

Despite the Minority’s opposition, the Appointments Committee of Parliament has recommended Mr Buah’s approval by a majority decision.

The development sets the stage for further parliamentary debate.
