Accra, Jan. 7, GNA – Mr Edward Boateng, a former Ambassador to China, has urged citizens to build on Ghana’s legacy of peaceful democratic transition, exhibited since 1992.
He said the nation must continue to respect political discourse, strengthen institutions, and celebrate the democratic ideals which position the country as “a global beacon of hope and inspiration.”
His remarks follow the inauguration of the Ninth Parliament and the swearing-in of President-Elect, Mr John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The former Director General of the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) praised present and past leadership of the country for demonstrating statemanship and commitment to preserving national interest in all endeavours.

“From Rawlings to Kufuor, Kufuor to Mills, Mahama to Akufo-Addo, and now Akufo-Addo to Mahama, every transition has been marked by civility, poise, and respect for the rule of law —an achievement even many Western nations struggle to match,” Mr Boateng stated.
He referenced Dr. Bawumia’s concession speech and subsequent phone call to President Mahama to reinforce the nation’s strong transition tradition.
“These acts of statesmanship demonstrate the shared commitment of our leaders to Ghana’s unity and democratic values,” he added.
The Eight Parliament was dissolved Monday night paving way for the inauguration of Members of Parliament-elect for the Ninth Parliament, midnight Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Ahead of the Presidential Inauguration at the Independence Square, Mr Alban Bagbin was also took his oath of office to serve another term as Speaker of Parliament.
Hundreds of dignitaries from diverse backgrounds, thronged the Independence Square to witness the swearing-in of President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, amidst colourful display of national heritage.
