Ho, Jan. 5, GNA – The Ho Technical University (HTU) has promoted two female Senior Lecturers to the grade of Associate Professors.
They are Professor Eli Ayawo Atatsi, Department of Management Science, HTU Business School and Professor Elizabeth Dzigbordi Obinnim, Department of Fashion Design and Textiles, Art and Design.
Dr Christopher K. Amehoe, HTU Registrar and Secretary to Council, in a notice on the promotion, said the decision was taken by the University at its 117th Regular Meeting.
He said the University Council in approving their promotions, took note of the fact that the two Associate Professors had made significant contributions to knowledge in their respective disciplines through teaching, scholarship and community service.
Dr Amehoe said the quality and standard of the publications by the two professors as adjudged by external assessors, was comparable to the acceptable standards of reputable Universities globally.
He said the Council further acknowledged the honour done the University through their scholarly contributions locally and internationally.
“Council, by this scholarly achievement, congratulates Management of the University for creating an enabling academic environment and research culture which has resulted in an appreciable number of professorial rank faculty in the University”.
Dr Amehoe said they were also the first female Associate Professors the University had produced.
Prof Atatsi obtained a Ph.D degree in Management from the Open University of Heerlen, Netherlands, MA in English Language from the University of Education, Winneba, Common Wealth Executive Master of Business
Administration and BA in English and Classics from the University of Cape Coast.
She was appointed as Instructor in January, 1995 in the then Department of Liberal and General Studies and promoted to the Rank of Senior Instructor in February 2002.
Prof Atatsi rose through the ranks as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer to her present grade as Associate Professor.
She served as Head of the Departments of Applied Modern Languages and Communication and Management Sciences and currently the Dean of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages of the University.
Prof Elizabeth Dzigbordi Obinnim holds a Ph.D degree in Fashion Education and Management from the Business University of Costa Rica, M.Tech in Fashion and Textiles Design Technology from the University of Education, Winneba and BEd in Fashion Design and Textiles also from the same University.
She began her career in the University as Assistant Instructor in October 1999 and rose through the ranks as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer to her present grade as Associate Professor.
Prof Obinnim served as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, Head of Department of Fashion Design and Textiles and Cooordinator of Apprenticeship and Access Programmes of the University.
She is currently the Dean of Student Affairs of the University.
“Council commended Prof Obinnim for her scholarship in her discipline as well as exceptional community service to the University over the years”.
Prof Atatsi’s appointment takes effect from October 7, 2024 while Prof Obinnim’s appointment takes effect from October 8, 2024.
