Manso Nkran (Ash), Jan. 06, GNA – Residents of Manso Nkran and its environs in the Amansie South District have been urged to prioritize activities that will help protect and sustain their environment.
Mr Baffour Awuah, Unit Committee Chairperson of Manso Nkran, who made the appeal said the protection of the environment was a collective responsibility of all the people in the area.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, he said it was important for the people to support the government in all efforts to protect the environment for sustainable development.
Mr Awuah pointed out that promoting good environmental practices would help conserve natural resources such as water, soil, air, and other living organisms to sustain the fertility of the soil.
Additionally, good environmental practices would help preserve biodiversity, which was essential for maintaining ecosystem balance and supporting life on earth.
It would also help promote food security, reduce the risk of diseases, help in the creation of jobs, reduce waste and other environmental disasters.
Mr Awuah said sustainable development could only be achieved when there was equal balance in economic growth, social and environmental well-being.
He said environmental protection was a matter of social justice, as marginalized communities were often disproportionately affected by environmental degradation.
He stressed the need for the people to work towards implementing sustainable waste management practices that would help protect the environment.
