Accra, Jan. 05, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) on Sunday morning resumed the recollation of Parliamentary results for four outstanding constituencies.
The recollation exercise is in compliance with the High Court ruling, ordering the Commission to complete the collation of results for the Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North and Techiman South constituencies.
While Tema Central has two outstanding polling stations, Ablekuma North had 62, Okaikwei Central had 31 and Techiman South had 147.
Outlining the guidelines for the recollation exercise, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training, EC, said the Commission would continue from where it ended at the last recollation exercise.
He said if disagreements arise over the authenticity of results among the parties, the Commission’s results would stand.
The EC said it would rely on soft copies of the statement of Results sheets (pink sheets) if the hard copies were not available.
The High Court presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah on January 1, 2025, overruled a preliminary objection raised against the mandamus application file by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The High Court held that the inherent jurisdiction of the court had been properly invoked because the application was not contesting already gazetted results of the EC.
The court went ahead to hear the mandamus application and on January 4, 2025 and directed the EC to collate outstanding parliamentary results in the four disputed constituencies.
According to the Court, the grounds for an application for mandamus had been met by the applicants in the respective cases.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a notice of appeal against the mandamus application, directing the Electoral Commission to collate outstanding parliamentary results in four disputed constituencies.
In a notice of appeal filed at the Court of Appeal, the NDC held that it was appealing against the ruling on January 1 and 4, 2025 of the High Court.
