Spintex, Jan. 16, GNA – A group of clergy, known as ‘Clergy Connect,’ has congratulated Bishop Dr Gideon Titi-Ofei, the Chancellor of the University College of Gold Coast, for facilitating the institution’s attainment of a Presidential Charter.

This positions the school as an independent degree-awarding institution.

The college, formerly known as Accra Business School, was among 14 university colleges that received the presidential Charter in December 2024.

The Clergy Connect, comprising both local and international clergy, presented a sculpted eagle and pen to the Chancellor and applauded him for his visionary leadership and dedication.

It also commended the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and the integration of faith-based values into its educational programmes.

Dr Titi-Ofei told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the institution had successfully chartered as required by Ghanaian law, following a rigorous audit process.

He explained that the school’s journey began in 2004 as the African Centre for Leadership and Human Resource Development, transitioned into the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership, affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in 2010.

It later evolved into the Accra Business School and is now known as the University College of Gold Coast.

The Chancellor noted that Accra Business School remained the business arm of the University College of Gold Coast and revealed plans to introduce advanced academic programmes, including a PhD in Business Administration, Data-Driven Management, Law, and other specialised courses.

“Achieving the charter

allows the school to fully realise its mission of producing job creators who will increase incomes and reduce poverty through practice-oriented education,” he said.

“When you’re linked to other universities, they dictate the content of your programmes. As a Christian university, the Charter allows us to align fully with our Christian values.”

Dr. Titi-Ofei said the school’s strategic partnerships with international institutions was to elevate its global standing to ensure that it became a hub for excellence in Ghana.

Bishop Michael Hutton-Wood, a member of Clergy Connect, commended the school for its remarkable achievements in training seasoned professionals worldwide and urged it to continue influencing society positively by developing high-ranking individuals.

Dr Bishop Ben Sallah of Agape City Church, Ghana and United Kingdom, and a member of Clergy Connect, said the gifts presented were symbolic, explaining that the sculpted eagle represented encouragement to soar higher, while the pen symbolised making history through valuable societal contributions.

Revered Daniel Odoi Sowah, Head Pastor of Glorious Temple, ICGC, Nungua, said: “Looking at his age and where we all began, he is like a jet; the university is very

young, but he has put so many things together quickly.”
