Sunyani, (Bono), Jan. 1, GNA- Spontaneous jubilation and unending firing of firecrackers characterized the ushering in of the New-Year in Sunyani, as churches and drinking bars in the regional capital filled to capacity on 31st Night Tuesday December 2024.
During a round visit, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that various church auditoriums in the capital were filled to capacity, as the highly excited worshipers, mostly clad in white cloths praised God for His mercies throughout 2024.
Interestingly, the usual prophetic revelations that associated with the ushering in of the New Year were virtually absent this time, as most of the churches in the capital welcomed 2025 with unending praises and worship songs.
Night life at Rex and Night market, the busiest enclaves in the capital was at their peak, as merry makers sparked fireworks spontaneously to welcome the New Year.
Around 1200 hours Tuesday January 1, 2025, various food vendors were still on the streets, cashing in.
A popular ‘Koko’ (porridge) seller around the Sunyani Night market enclave, known as Fati, told the GNA her profit margin had increased in the festive season, describing patronage as high and encouraging.
The ‘31st night’ also created a field day for many shop owners in the enclaves as demand for ‘knockouts’ and other firecrackers were also high.
Some of the shop owners confirmed the shortage of firecrackers and toy guns in the festive season.
“Toy guns and firecrackers are even scarce and we can’t get some to sell,” Stephen Kunsu, a shop owner at Rex also told the GNA.
The New Year celebration was quite not different as some major drinking bars and pubs along the Sunyani-Abesim stretch were also filed to capacity, with operators entertaining merry makers with pulsating music and live bands.
As at round 1230 hours, the GNA noticed that some young people were still arriving at some drinking bars and restaurants to celebrate the Year.
“We just closed from the 31st vigil and we want to entertain ourselves small here,” one of the celebrants the GNA chanced on at the ‘Standford Bridge’, a popular pub along the Sunyani-Abesim stretch stated.
