Accra, Jan. 2, GNA – Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, on New Year’s Day entertained cured lepers of the Weija Leprosarium to sumptuous meals and good drinks to ensure they also enjoyed the Yuletide.

The couple, at their residence in Accra, personally served their quests with food and beverages and assured the cured lepers of their continuous support even after exiting office on January 7, 2025.

“It was all joy, as I spent New Year’s Day with my cured leper friends from the Weija Leprosarium, at my residence,” Dr Bawumia wrote on his Facebook page.

As a Patron of the Lepers Aid Ghana, he had provided items including rice, cooking oil, water and drinks, as well as cash donations to the Weija Leprosarium over the past eight years.

Dr Bawumia’s kind heart for the vulnerable in society knows no bounds because of his belief that the privileged must endeavour to support the marginalised.

On Christmas Day he welcomed Priscilla, a four-year-old cured leper, whom he sponsored to undergo a medical treatment in Italy to fix her severed legs.

The Vice President described Priscilla’s recovery and visit to his home as the “best Christmas gift,” highlighting his compassion for the vulnerable in the society.
