Accra, Jan. 14, GNA – The Anglican Young People’s Association (AYPA) of SS. Alban & Matthew Anglican Cathedral, Tema Diocese, has donated assorted essential items to the Nsawam Prisons in the Eastern Region as part of its outreach programme.
The items included bags of gari, rice, cooking oil, clothing, shoes, and bags, aimed at supporting the welfare of inmates.
Additionally, an undisclosed amount of money was presented to support the prison’s educational programmes.
The donation forms part of the AYPA’s ongoing outreach initiative, which began in 2020, focused on assisting the less privileged and sharing the love of Christ.
Nana Araba Acquaah-Ba, President of the AYPA, Tema Deanery, led the delegation, which included Rev. Canon Eric Agba, Precentor of the Cathedral, and other members.
She said, “Our aim is to make a lasting impact, both locally and beyond, by providing care and support where it is most needed.”
Ms Acquaah-Ba expressed gratitude to members of the parish and benevolent individuals for their contributions toward the initiative.
She noted that the AYPA had previously extended support to the Weija Leprosarium, Father’s Heart Orphanage Home, Akuse Women’s Prison, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Tema General Hospital, among other beneficiaries.
Rev. Canon Agba commended the youth for their dedication to service, highlighting the importance of showing compassion to the less privileged in society.
Mr. Henry Martey, Assistant Chaplain of Nsawam Prisons, received the items on behalf of the inmates and expressed gratitude to the Anglican youth for their thoughtful gesture.
He urged other organisations and individuals to emulate the example and support the needs of inmates.
