Ho (V/R), Jan. 30, GNA – A large number of young people from the Ave communities in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region gathered in Ho, the regional capital, to show their unwavering support for Mr Abraham Ahiabu, who is aspiring to be the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
Determined to make their voices heard, the youth organised and boarded a school bus, along with other vehicles, to travel to Ho on Tuesday, January 28, the final day of the vetting of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
In an interaction with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), they expressed their strong belief that Mr Ahiabu is the right person for the position.
John Kpetsi, one of the youth leaders, stated, “He is a hard worker and deserves to be rewarded for his dedication.”
Another supporter, Normanyo Yohanes, added, “He has sacrificed a lot for the party, and we cannot allow him to be overlooked while others take all the benefits.”
Speaking to the GNA after his vetting, Mr Abraham Ahiabu expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from the youth. He highlighted his long-standing service to the party, having been the Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the past 15 years.
“I have always worked to bring young people on board, and if given the opportunity as DCE, I will continue to engage and empower the youth to move the district forward,” he said.
Mr Ahiabu emphasised his passion for innovation and entrepreneurship, revealing that he has developed a mobile application aimed at transforming the local transport system.
“I have created an app that will allow motorbike riders to operate similarly to Uber and Bolt. This will provide a structured and efficient way for young riders to earn a decent living. I am about to launch it, and it will create many opportunities for the youth.”
He also mentioned his leadership in a welfare initiative designed to support young entrepreneurs and community members, stressing that his creative approach to problem-solving will be valuable to the district assembly.
Mr. Ahiabu acknowledged the financial difficulties facing the Akatsi North District Assembly, stating that the assembly currently has a debt of approximately 4 million cedis
“It will take a creative leader to clear these debts and generate additional revenue for development,” he stated.
He criticised the traditional over-reliance on the District Assembly Common Fund, emphasising the need for alternative revenue-generating strategies.
“Most DCEs simply wait for the common fund, but I believe we can create wealth within the district by tapping into available opportunities.”
One of Mr. Ahiabu’s key visions for Akatsi North is to develop the district into a major poultry hub.
“This initiative will not only create jobs but also provide sustainable revenue for the assembly,” he explained.
He believes that with increased revenue, many of the district’s challenges can be addressed, and he is determined to spearhead initiatives that will lead to economic growth and self-sufficiency.
Mr. Ahiabu was one of four aspirants vying for the position of District Chief Executive in the Akatsi North District.
