With GOC set to elect new executives for the next four years in March 2025, an extraordinary congress would be conducted on January 25, 2025, to register and validate delegates.

Mr. Akpokavie, a former General Secretary of GOC, hopes to revitalise the local sports body with his initiatives while propelling Ghana to greatness on the international stage.

A campaign team named “RAfGOCP2025,” which comprises some sports association members, general secretaries, and presidents of some sports federations, have backed the presidency bid of Mr. Akpokavie.

A statement from the campaign team said,”Mr. Richard Akpokavie would use his leverage and expertise in Ghanaian sports to lure corporate bodies and international entities to throw their weight behind sports and sponsor sporting activities in the country”.

Also, they stated Mr. Akpokavie’s intentions to use his expertise to lure corporate bodies and international entities to throw their weight behind sports and sponsor sporting activities in the country.

“He would launch his manifesto in a week or two, and we would get the details; he is so enamoured with sports in Ghana that he will leave no stone unturned to make sports a great enterprise in Ghana,” the statement added.

The upcoming GOC elections are expected to be a fiercely contested race as members seek various positions and look to reshape Ghana’s sporting landscape, especially in international competitions.
