Accra, Jan. 16, GNA – The President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie as the next Minister for the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Madam Gomashie is a politician and creative Arts Expert with decades of experience in advocacy and youth leadership.
She hails from a family with a strong connection to traditional Ghanaian culture and has been an advocate for preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage.
As the two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, she had championed development and community support initiatives and had made significant strides in politics., particularly as a Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She previously served as Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, where she championed the promotion of Ghanaian culture and tourism through theatre arts, a lifelong passion that has endeared her to Ghanaians at home and abroad.
Through her role, she contributed to the promotion of Ghanaian culture and tourism on both national and international platforms.
Before venturing into politics, Madam Gomashie had a successful career in the entertainment industry, particularly in Ghanaian film and television.
She became a household name through her roles in popular TV dramas, films, and stage performances.
Her career as an actress helped her gain national recognition and built a strong fan base.
She worked extensively as an advocate for culture to promote the arts and culture of Ghana, including supporting initiatives related to the tourism and entertainment industries.
She is particularly known for her work in ensuring that the cultural diversity of Ghana is appreciated both at home and abroad.
The Tourism Minister Designate has been involved in several community development projects, particularly in the Volta Region.
She advocates the empowerment of women and children and has worked to address issues such as education, health and economic development in her constituency.
Madam Gomashie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (First Class) and an MPhil In African Studies from the University of Ghana and an Honorary Doctor of Leadership from the Global Center for Transformational Leadership.
She is a well-respected public figure and has played significant roles in both Ghanaian politics and the entertainment industry.
She has worked to promote gender equality and the involvement of women in leadership roles in both the arts and politics.
Her work has inspired many young Ghanaians, particularly women, to become involved in both the arts and politics and regarded as a trailblazer for women in leadership roles and continues to influence both her home community and the country at large.
As a Former Deputy Minister for the sector, she has a solid track record in governance and public service and her leadership in the Ministry helped shape policies that advanced the sectors.
She also leveraged her position to advocate the preservation of national heritage and the promotion of Ghana as a tourist destination.
