Accra Dec. 28, GNA – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has received additional GHC 35 million from the Ministry of Education (MoE), as payment to complete the scanning of objective answer cards of WASSCE students.
A statement issued and signed by Mr John K. Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, said the Council was working around the clock to ensure that the 2024 results of WASSCE School Candidates were released by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, the Council has appealed to the MoE, to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay Supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, suppliers of examination materials and also meet other financial obligations.
Earlier, WAEC had indicated that the Ministry owed it GHC118 million cedis, saying non-payment of the amount would delay the release of results.
The statement said the MoE through the Finance Ministry issued a cheque for GHC25 million, and on December 25, 2024 the Council confirmed the receipt of an additional GHC 35 million, with the current outstanding balance to be paid being GHC 58 million.
It said the Council wished all its stakeholders the best of the season and assured them of its commitment to the execution of its mandate despite the challenges.
