Voting progresses smoothly in Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency

Accra, Dec 07, GNA – Voting is underway smoothly in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and the Ghana News Agency (GNA) can confirm that there is a strong collaboration among officials of the Electoral Commission, security officers and personnel and the electorate.

Mr. Jonathan Zwift, the Presiding Officer at the West Legon Presby 1A, 1B and 2 Polling Center, told the GNA in an interview that the Electoral Commission had educated voters on their responsibilities ahead of the polls, contributing to the seamless process the University of Ghana Campus and the La Bawaleshie Polling Centres.

As of 11:10 hours, 152 out of 660 registered voters had cast their ballots at the West Legon Presby Polling Center 1A, 1B, and 2.

While Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the Founder for Movement for Change, and an Independent Candidate is expected to vote at West Legon Presby Polling Center, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would vote at the La Bawaleshie Polling Centre.

Mr. John Setor Dumelo, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for would cast his vote at the University of Ghana.

The 2024 general are currently taking place across 276 constituencies in Ghana, with 18.8 million registered voters expected to cast their ballots.

Some key statistics about the elections are that there are 18.8 million registered voters with over 48 per cent male and 52 per cent female.

Also, there are 13 presidential candidates in the running, with some representing political parties and four being independent candidates.

However, at the parliamentary level, 111 candidates are contesting as independents.

Ghana’s Electoral System is such that, the President of Ghana is elected using the two-round system, while Members of Parliament are elected in single-member constituencies.
