Akatsi (VR), Dec. 7, GNA- Voting has begun smoothly across the designated 134 Polling Centres within the Akatsi South Municipality.
As of 0700 hours, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) saw voters rushing to join their respective queues to participate in today’s nationwide exercise.
An elderly man, aged 85, who spoke to the GNA on anonymity, revealed that he desired to see a developed Ghana.
“My vote is my power so I will vote for the best candidates,” he said.
So far, no issues of equipment malfunctioning and major concerns have been raised, according to Mrs Akorfa Buabasa Asamoah, the Akatsi South Director of the Electoral Commission (EC).
She indicated that all EC officials have been dispatched to their assigned Centres to oversee the task ahead.
A total of 53,582 eligible voters are expected to participate in the exercise with each of polling stations protected by security officers.
Some party agents from the two main political parties expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations on the part of the EC before the commencement of the polls.
However, there have been a few instances where concerns have been raised about the positioning of some ballot boxes.
Some voters argued that their ballot boxes had not been properly arranged, thereby exposing their decision-making process to the public.
The issue, the EC explained, would not hinder any voter from exercising his/her franchise as it was done in previous elections.
Businesses have seen a decline in their activities as a result of the ongoing exercise.
Ghanaians are taking part in what experts call the ‘crucial elections’ to elect a new president and their various members of parliament for the next four years across the 275 constituencies countrywide.
