Voters in Ellembelle brace up for election 2024

By P. K. Yankey

Esiama (W/R), Dec 01, GNA – With barely six days for Ghanaians to go to the general polls, prospective voters in the Ellembelle Constituency, are caught up with a fever which usually characterizes elections as political parties intensify their campaigns in the nook and cranny of the constituency.

The  parliamentary election is being contested by three candidates namely Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) who is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP); Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh, the District Chief Executive ( DCE) on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); and Mr. John Asmah Nkum,a former Assembly Member of Nkroful on the ticket of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

The incumbent MP Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah, made his debut in Parliament in 2009 after a first-time victory in the 2008 election.

Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh, who entered the parliament contest in 2012 on the ticket of the NPP, is fiercely contesting the sitting MP a fourth time.

The PPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. John Asmah Nkum is also contesting the seat for the second time after losing in the 2020 polls.

In the 2020 parliamentary election, Mr.  Buah polled 32,053, that is 55.87% to beat his main contender, Mr Kwasi Bonzoh who garnered 23,669 representing 41.60% of the valid votes cast.

Mr Asmah Nkum of the PPP obtained only 24 of the votes representing 0.04%.

With the exception of the PPP parliamentary candidate, Mr Nkum who is not visible in the constituency in terms of party paraphernalia, billboards, open campaign through party supporters clad in T-,Shirts and moving round the nooks and crannies of area, the NDC and NPP Parliamentary Candidates have embarked upon massive campaigns in the last few months.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Buah who is the sitting MP, has been commissioning projects he had embarked upon in the constituency such as schools,CHPS compound, extension of electricity, donation of vehicles and motorbikes to the health and education sectors.

Mr Buah continued to boost entrepreneurial businesses through apprenticeship training by paying for their tuition fees and skill them up with start-up kits such as sewing machines, hair dryers among others and seed capital.

His main contender, Mr Kwasi Bonzoh of the NPP had also provided educational infrastructure in the last few years in some Senior High Technical Schools.

Through the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP), the Assembly graded some deplorable roads in the area.

However, the two candidates have intensified their campaigns with just a few days until the election.

According to the NPP candidate, the 16-year reign of the incumbent MP was enough for the Constituency.

On the contrary, the NDC candidate, Mr Buah , who is the sitting MP, believes his opponent’s assertion was untenable as he had transformed Ellembelle with massive development in the last 16 years and continued to bring more development even as an MP in opposition.
