Keta (VR) Dec. 30, GNA – Some youth at Keta in the Volta region have on Sunday allegedly demolished part of a storey building structure belonging to Mr Emmanuel Gemegah, the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.
The youth accused the MCE of selling part of the reclaimed land and building a private resident on the land meant for the construction of a sports complex in the area.
The agitating youth, who were fully armed, besieged other areas of the reclaimed land at Adzido-Vodza near Emancipation Beach and demolished some structures and fence walls.
The Police upon tip-off visited the building site and stopped the men, who were with two bulldozers from further undertaking the demolishing of the buildings but could not make any arrest.
Some youth, who only agreed to speak to Ghana News Agency (GNA) under the condition of anonymity, accused the MCE of illegally building on the reclaimed land, whose case has been with the Sogakope High Court, pending final judgment.
“The MCE has ignored the warnings of the court and this is pure contempt of court and we will not allow that to happen,” they claimed.
The youth also accused the MCE of selling and giving out part of the reclaimed land, which was meant for the entire Keta Municipality and for development projects to party and family members for private use.
Ghana News Agency understands that earlier this year, some other youth group also attacked the MCE in a similar mood and warned him to stop building on the said reclaimed land.
Meanwhile, all efforts by the GNA to reach out to the MCE has not yielded positive results.
