Accra, Dec 19, GNA – Security personnel Wednesday arrested two persons for vandalising five vehicles on the premises of Parliament.

The suspects, named Wisdom Ahlie, 42, and Christopher Okyere, 33, used an axe head to smash the vehicles’ windscreens and side glasses at about 1030 hours.

Two Toyota Land Cruisers, a Toyota Rav 4, and two Toyota Camry vehicles were vandalised.

A statement signed by Mr David Sebastian Damoah, the Director of Media Relations, issued to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said: “The cars, which were parked on the precincts of Parliament, included two Toyota Land Cruisers belonging to Members of Parliament, a Toyota Rav 4 and two Toyota Camry belonging to staff of the Parliamentary Service.”

The motives behind the action of the suspects are yet to be established.

“While being whisked away in handcuffs, one of the suspects could be heard looking into the skies, saying “Father have mercy on them for they do not know what they are doing,” the statement said.

Following the timely intervention by the personnel of the Parliamentary Security Unit, the suspects were swiftly arrested.

“…Parliament will like to assure the public that there were no casualties although the extent of damage is yet to be determined,” the statement said.

When the Ghana News Agency spoke to some eyewitnesses, they said they spotted the suspects preaching on the premises of Parliament.

“…One was preaching in front of the administration block and claimed he was Jesus Christ,” Yaw Boateng, a member of the Parliamentary Press Corp, said.
