Tricycle collision leaves one dead, 11 students in critical condition

Yeji, (Bono East), Dec. 20, GNA – One person died, and 11 others, mostly students, are in  a critical condition, when two tricycles (motor king) collided head-on, on the Yeji-Brekente stretch in the Pru East Municipality of the Bono East Region. 

The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the Yeji St Mathias Hospital mortuary, while the victims received medical care at the same hospital. 

Mr Godwin Awudi, the Assemblyman for the Yeji Traditional Council Electoral Area who confirmed the crash, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) it happened Wednesday December 18, 2024, evening. 

He said one of the tricycles was overloaded with the about 25 students who were returning from school from Yeji to the Brekente community when the rider lost control and collided head-on with the other tricycle, which was coming from the opposite direction. 

Mr Awudi said the condition of the deceased, also a student worsened, and was subsequently referred to, and died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. 

During a visit, Ms. Vivian Yeboah, the Human Resources Manager at the hospital, told the GNA almost all the victims were in stable condition now, and were responding to treatment.
