Tragic accident claims three lives, 23 others injured on Cape Coast-Accra highway

Cape Coast, Dec 28, GNA – Three people died on the spot while several others sustained various degree of injuries in a tragic accident at the Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School junction on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway Thursday morning. 

Twenty-three victims are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and University of Cape Coast Hospital with nine others treated and discharged. 

Divisional Officer three (DOIII) Abdul Wasiu Hudu, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency. 

According to him, a Yutong bus with registration number GW 6231-21, travelling from Takoradi to Accra and carrying about 53 passengers, overturned, and landed on its side, trapping some passengers beneath the vehicle. 

However, he said firefighters together with the police and ambulance services readily rushed to the scene to rescue all the trapped passengers. 

The injured were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital respectfully for medical attention.
