Tizza chief requests for astroturf to develop community’s sporting talents

Tizza, (UW/R), Dec. 31, GNA – The chief and people of Tizza in the Jirapa Municipality, have congratulated Mr John Dramani Mahama for being elected the President of Ghana.

He appealed to him to construct an astroturf for the community when he assumes office on January 7, 2025.

They said having a befitting football pitch in the area would help develop the sporting talents of youth in the community.

Naa Bawayeela Dakurah III, the Chief of the Tizza community, made the appeal at Tizza during the climax of the second edition of the Tizza Community Football Gala.

Twelve football teams from Tizza and surrounding communities including Domwin, and Karni communities participated in this year’s gala funded by Sonzele Rural Bank.

Naa Dakurah stated that the number of teams in the area that participated in the football event was an indication of the growing interest of the young people in the area in football and sports in general.

He, however, said the lack of a befitting football pitch was a setback to them developing those interests and talents.

He called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Cletus Dapilaa to facilitate the process of getting the incoming Mahama-led government to construct the astroturf for them as a legacy project to the community.

“I hope that with what we have started here in Tizza, the President-elect and his incoming sports minister will take interest in it and construct an astroturf for us.

It will not only help promote sports activities in this community, but it will promote unity among the young people in Tizaa and surrounding communities”, Naa Dakurah explained.

Mr Gaspard Doodaa, the Chairman of the Tizza Football Gala Planning Committee, encouraged the youth to continue training to further develop their talents.

He said consistent training through friendly games would enable them to reach the height of a football career.

Mr James Thompson Anlaaminga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tizza Football Gala, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview that he birthed the idea due to the potential of sports to promote unity among people and communities.

He expressed hope that having an astroturf in the community would help unearth the hidden football talents in the area.

“We are appealing to cooperate bodies and the government to build an astroturf for us so that through these games we will discover the hidden talents for Ghana,” Mr Anlaaminga stated.

The annual football event was aimed at unearthing and developing the football talents of the youth of Tizza and surrounding communities.

The community used that opportunity to recognise some illustrious sons and daughters of the Tizza community for their diverse contributions to the development of the community.

The Saaduon football team won the tournament while the Naayirbog Warriors emerged second.
