Sunyani, Dec. 31, GNA – Sunyani-based Sompa FM in the early hours of Tuesday presented Christmas packages valued at GHC80,000 to 200 widows in the Sunyani Municipality.
Each of the aged women, mostly between 50 and 70 years, received a Christmas hamper containing five kilo bag rice, cooking oils, tomato paste, and sardines.
Hitherto, the FM station registered and issued cards to the beneficiaries to receive the packages as a gift to also usher in the New Year.
“It’s our responsibility to identify and put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable in society as we celebrate the festive season and to usher in the New Year too,” Mr Yaw Aboagye Boadi, the General Manager, Sompa FM stated.
He indicated that the ideal celebration of Christmas and the New Year was to show true love, care, and compassion to the vulnerable in society, especially widows for them to forget their past sorrows and worries.
That, Mr Boadi added, would inspire and comfort them to feel part of society, and thereby enter the New Year with hope and aspirations.
Some of the widows who could not hide their joy told the GNA in an interview that the items were the only Christmas gifts some of them received in the festive season and expressed appreciation to the FM station. “I am very excited and grateful to the FM station.
Last year they gifted us with similar food items and now Sompa FM has become our source of hope in the festive seasons,” Madam Esther Yeboa, one of the beneficiaries stated.
Another beneficiary, Mad Salamatu Asala, also expressed her deepest appreciation to the station, saying for the past three years that she lost her husband, the Sompa FM Christmas package had remained a source of hope for her and her family in the festive seasons.
