Special voting exercise underway in Krachi East

Dambai (O/R) Dec. 02, GNA – The special voting exercise is underway at the Municipal Electoral Commission (EC) office in the Krachi East constituency of the Oti Region.

The exercise allows security personnel, Electoral Commission staff, Journalists and all other persons who would be on official duties on December 7, to cast their ballots ahead of time.

The exercise which commenced at 0700 hours, saw the participation of the security agencies, including the Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Prison Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), as well as staff from the Ghana Ambulance Service, and Journalists.

Mr Klutse Kafui, the Krachi East Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said a total of 694 were expected to cast their ballot.

He emphasised that the ballot boxes used in the special voting exercise would be kept at a secure location and would only be counted after the general elections on December 7, 2024.

Mr Clement Kwasi Mamadu, the Krachi East Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, took the opportunity to educate the voting public that there was a total of thirteen presidential candidates, with two parliamentary candidates.

He appealed to the voters to exercise patience and go according to the EC’s instructions and hoped the process would be calm and peaceful.

The special voting exercise was seen as a significant step towards the general elections, with Mr Nuhu Mahama, the Regional Director of the EC, assuring the electorates of a credible, transparent and peaceful electoral process.

He said the outcome of the special voting exercise and the general elections will be closely watched as Ghana seeks to consolidate its democratic gains and ensure a peaceful transfer of power.

The exercise, which commenced on Monday is taking place at selected venues within the nine constituencies in the Oti Region.
