Accra, Dec 31, GNA – Reverend Father Andrew Campbell, a Catholic Missionary, has encouraged Ghanaians to show love to all manner of persons, especially, cured leppers.
“Let people feel loved and cared for. Jesus came to share his love with us. So, we should share with the poor, the needy, hungry families, and with street children,” he said.
Rev Fr Campbell, who is also the Founder of the SVD Foundation, said this when the Ghana News Agency chanced on him at the Accra Mall, soliciting for donation for cured lepers.
He said “the donation at the Accra Mall has been wonderful. People have been supporting us very much and I am so grateful. This is not just today but going back over the years.”
He explained that showing love, in the form of giving, providing food, clothing and shelter, as well as taking care of the health concerns of the needy was an act of God.
Particularly about lepers, whom he has been supporting for the past 50 years, including sheltering some of them at the Weija Leprosarium, Rev Fr Campell, said, “you can pay for the food and the medical care.”
“Because when the people come to the settlements in the various parts of the country, they’re just shunned by their families, and all the burden comes back to us, the people in the society,” he added.
“I’ve been working now with lepers for the past 50 years. And during those 50 years anywhere I went and asked people for help, they’ve assisted me. And it’s been a wonderful time, putting a smile on the face of those people,” the humanitarian said.
