Savana Signatures launches SMAGs to foster accountability and good governance in Oti Region

Dambai (O/R), Dec 31, GNA – Savana Signatures, a Ghana-based non-governmental organization, has launched the Social Movement for Accountability and Good Governance (SMAG) Committee in the Oti Region.

This initiative is part of the “Your Voice for Matter Project,” supported by STAR -Ghana Foundation and funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.

The 15-member SMAG Committee was inaugurated in eight Districts and Municipals, which include Krachi East Municipal, Krachi West Municipal, Krachi Nchumuru District, Buem Municipal, Akan District, Biakoye District, Nkwanta South Municipal and Nkwanta North District.

These District-level, non-partisan groups comprise diverse stakeholders, institutional heads, traditional authorities, religious leaders, assembly members, persons with disabilities (PWDs), media practitioners and the public.

The SMAG Committees have been tasked with promoting social accountability in governance processes, ensuring inclusivity, particularly for people with disabilities (PWDs), women and other vulnerable groups.

Their efforts aim to bridge the gap between leaders and citizens, foster trust and promote sustainable development at the grassroots level.

Savana Signature’s project officer, Mr. Eric Annorey, charged the committees to be resolute in their mission, emphasizing that citizens have a responsibility to ensure transparency in governance.

Mr. Emmanuel Donkor, Oti Regional President of the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD), and Madam Elizabeth Nsiah, Assembly member for the Kabinchi Adankpa Electoral Area in Krachi West have commended Savana Signatures for championing gender inclusivity.

The launch of the SMAGs marks a significant milestone in Savana Signatures’s mission to empower youth, women, and vulnerable populations in Ghana through innovative solutions.

As the SMAGs become operational impact on governance and transparency in the Oti Region and beyond, serving as model for other regions to strengthen democracy, promote inclusivity and enhance development across Ghana.
