Accra, Dec. 28, GNA – The People of Santrokofi Benua have commenced the construction of a State-of-the-art Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the cost of GH₵300,000 to redefine the educational and economic landscape of the Community.
The origins of this ambitious project can be traced back to 2017, when a Group of visionary young people in Santrokofi Benua recognized the urgent need to bridge the digital divide and equip their community with the tools to thrive in the 21st century.
Driven by a desire to create opportunities for their peers and future generations, they began the strenuous task of turning their dream into reality.
Nana Buamah Kyerefor IV, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee and the Twafohene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, explained that “When we started this project, it was a youth-led initiative.”
The Chairman speaking at a Homecoming event said, “but we quickly realized that it was a task that required the involvement of the entire community.”
As part of the event an impressive GHc195,000.00 funds were raised out of the GHc300,000.00 required to complete the project.
As families and friends gathered to celebrate the holiday season, the streets of Santrokofi Benua were transformed into a vibrant tapestry of cultural displays, traditional dances, and the aroma of local delicacies.
He said identifying the transformative potential of the ICT centre, the community rallied behind the young leaders, forming a coalition of stakeholders that included traditional authorities, religious leaders, and local businesses.
Together, they embarked on a journey to secure the necessary funding and navigate the logistical challenges that stood in their way.
He said the Homecoming event provided the perfect platform to showcase the community’s unwavering commitment to the project.
Nana Buamah Kyerefor IV said “Education is the key to unlocking opportunities and we want our children to dream big and know that they have the tools to achieve those dreams.”
He said by equipping residents with essential digital skills,
the ICT centre aimed to open new avenues for personal and professional growth.
He said the community leaders envisioned the centre as a hub of innovation and creativity, where young minds could explore their passions and develop the competencies needed to thrive in the modern workforce.
Nana Sarku Brempong, the Chief of Santrokofi Benua and the Nifahene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area said, “This event is not just about fundraising; rather it is a celebration of our heritage, our unity, and our shared vision for the future.”
He encouraged the community members to contribute in whatever way they could, whether through personal donations, corporate sponsorships, or outreach to the Santrokofi diaspora.
Nana Opoku Mintah, Chairman of the Santrokofi Benua Development Committee said, “This ICT center is not just a building; it represents the aspirations and dreams of our entire community.”
He said “Today, we have come together to ensure that our children and grandchildren have access to the tools and resources they need to thrive in the digital age.”
He said, “When we started this project, it was a youth-led initiative, but we quickly realized that it was a task that required the involvement of the entire community, the reason
why we decided to bring everyone on board to ensure that we could raise the necessary funds and see this project through to completion.”
The Santrokofi Benua ICT centre is envisioned as more than just a building; it represents a bold step towards bridging the digital divide and empowering the community’s youth.
Beyond providing access to computer training and the internet, the centre is expected to host a wide range of educational programmes, workshops, and community events.
