Accra, Dec 2, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra – Airport East (RCAAE), has held a fundraising event to support the club’s foundation and project.
Proceeds from the event would support the purchase of equipment for beneficiaries of the club’s flagship Girl Child Empower Project.
The event held at the Shield Lounge in Accra on Saturday was graced by many Rotarians as well as invited guests.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. William A. Adjabui, President of the RCAAE, said the Project which was started in 2022 aimed at training and equipping beneficiaries of the program with vocational skills for self sustainability.
He said the beneficiaries who were drawn from the Teshie Technical Training Institute in Accra were given internship opportunities between three and six months at various institutions including Regimanuel Grey, Saki Cole, and Cadlin Fashion where some of them have been retained and were gainfully employed.
He said that the club had spent about GHC80,000 in training the first cohort of the project made up of included 10 girls, and noted that the club was aiming at raising some GHC100,000 for the second cohort which included 10 girls plus two boys.
He said the club had put in place some monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure that the first cohort live up to expectations and impact others with the skills they had acquired.
Mr Adjabui led the club to present start up equipment including industrial sowing machines to four of the girls, and appealed for support to sustain the project.
He concluded by saying the girls would be placed in the Roteract Club, which is the junior division of the club.
