Accra, Dec 1, GNA – The first lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has handed over a basic school she built through her Rebecca Foundation to residents of Wiaboman in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The public school was built by her Foundation upon the request by the chiefs and people of Wiaboman to the first lady when she visited the community in 2020.
They appealed to her to help them get a primary school so their children could easily access basic school instead of traveling to long communities to access basic education.
Hitherto, pupils in the area had to travel as far as to Mamprobi, Dansoman, Glefe or Weija for schooling and that sometimes resulted in some of the children being knocked down by vehicles.
During the inauguration of the school building, Mrs Akufo-Addo said her aim was to enable all children in the community to access basic education as a means of the foundation that could propel their future.
She said the Rebecca Foundation was committed to the construction of schools, health facilities among others, to better the lives of the vulnerable in the society, particularly children and women.
She expressed the hope that the opening of the school would help in providing a solid foundation for the pupils in the community, adding that primary education propels children for a better education in the future.
The first lady said the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government was bent on brightening the future of all Ghanaian children through education that was why it had placed emphasis on the free senior high school policy, making it possible for all JHS graduate to access secondary school freely.
She, therefore, called on Ghanaians to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections, saying, “he is a problem solver and a visionary leader.”
She also called on the constituents of the Weija-Gbawe to vote for Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib as the NPP parliamentary candidate as he was committed to the development of the area.
Mr Michael Danquah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Weija-Gbawe, said the building of the primary school in the community was a testament of the many developmental projects of the NPP.
He urged management of the school to maintain the building to ensure that generations yet unborn would benefit from it.
Nii Oboja Nunoo, the Jaasetse (elder) of Wiaboman, on behalf of the chiefs and people, thanked the First lady for the gesture, and for heeding to their request, saying “we have cried a lot over the lack of a basic school in our community as our children have to go to as far as Mamprobi to access education.
“But today the First Lady has made it a dream come true for us.”
Mr Shaib, on his part, thanked the first lady for the school, which he said had added on to the many developmental projects provided under NPP, like electricity, water, sea defence wall and a health facility to the area.
He said the NPP government was focussed on the development of the country and called on the people to vote massively for the party on December 7.
