Sunyani, (Bono), Dec. 10, GNA – Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Media Foundation (GloMeF), a human rights and media advocacy organisation has advised political parties and their followers to guard against post-election violence.

As Ghana joins the rest of the globe to mark the 2024 Human Rights Day, he emphasised that worst forms of human rights abuses occurred in a post-election violence, which remained affront to international human rights conventions.

Today, December 10 is Human Rights Day and exactly 76 years ago in 1948 the General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and 30 years ago, in 1984, it adopted the Convention against Torture.

Mr Ahenu commended Ghanaians for a peaceful General Election, however, condemned pockets of election violence, being reported in parts of the country.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to mark the Day, Mr Ahenu indicated that the nation had sailed through the December 7 polls, successfully and peacefully, its aftermath could be disastrous if efforts were not put in place to control emerging tensions.

He said post elections violence threatened national security and stability and called on Ghanaians and political parties to remain calm, as the nation prepared for a peaceful transition of politics on January 7, 2025.
