Accra, Dec. 28, GNA – Ghanaians have been asked to help protect and preserved state property and official documents during the transition to facilitate smooth shift of power.

Dr Gad Asorwoe Akwensivie, a Land Governance Advisor made the appeal during a meeting with journalists at University of Ghana on December 25, 2024.

A statement issued to the GNA said Dr Akwensivie was concerned about the increasing spate of destruction of government property during the transition phase.

Dr Akwensivie recounted recent unlawful removal and destruction of property at government installation, the recent arrest of four persons for removing materials from the Agenda -111 Hospital site at Awutu Breku in the Central Region, and the vandalizing of state vehicles at Parliament House,

He also mentioned the destruction of EC office and District Chief Executives Residence at Damango in the North-East Region, the removal of property from School Feeding Project warehouse in Tamale, and the recent fire outbreak at Sagleme on December 24 that destroyed valuable property in the storage area of Sagleme Housing Project site.

Dr Akwensivie has therefore called on the Police, private security service providers and the public to remain vigilant and protect public property.

He also advised people at government installations to learn about various kinds of fire extinguishers, procure and keep them within easy reach to help curb fire outbreaks.

Dr Akwensivie recommended the installation og smoke detectors in government buildings to help with early detection of fires.

“It behooves us to as citizens to protect state property,” he added.
