Accra, Dec. 07.GNA – Polls have delayed for about two hours in parts of the Amasaman Constituency in the Ga West due the late arrival of voting materials.
Although voters begun queuing as early as 4 am , the Electoral Commission started delivering the voting materials to the polling stations at about 0750 hours.
At the Great Rock Redeemer Church Polling Stations 1,2,3 and 4 for instance, two instead of four sets of voting materials were delivered after 00 7: 30 am leaving voters agitated.
At the Transformer Oduman 1 and 2 Polling Stations, the voting materials were delivered at about 8:30 am , some electorate expressed concern about the delay in start while others waited patiently to vote.
The situation was not different at the M/A JHS 1,2,3,4 and the M/APrimary School 1,2,3,4 and 5 Polling stations where voters formed well organised long queues as early as 4 am.
The Ghana News Agency spotted a 65-year-old voter Madam Josephine Dodoo jubilating at the arrival of voting materials at about 008:00 am at her M/A Primary School 1 Polling Station.
“I was worried about the late arrival of the ballot boxes,but now that it has arrived I am happy to vote for a better future of my children and grandchildren,” she said.
Voting however started at the Oduman Transformer 2 Polling Station at exactly 9am when the first voter cast his vote.
At the Sapeiman Primary ‘A’ and ‘B’ Polling Station in the Amasaman Constituency , voting commenced at 0726 hours.
A total of 2,436 people are expected to cast their ballots at the two voting centres, by close of polls at 1700 hours.
Queues began to form as early as 006:00 am with polling agents for the various political parties present waiting for the process to begin.
Police Officers were present at various polling stations in the Amasaman constituency to ensure law and order and a smooth election.
The Amasaman Constituency is home to 314,299 people, with a voter population of about 180,000, making it the third largest constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
