Keta (VR), Dec 25, GNA – A total of 42 physically challenged persons (PWDs) in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have received various support from the government through the Municipal Assembly.
The support, which includes sewing machine, polytank, irrigation machines, hairdryer and money, among others, was to ensure person with disability have improved living conditions.
Madam Sherita Kudoda, the Chairperson of the Association, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the support was part of the District Common Fund for PWDs within the area.
“We have about 500 registered PWDs within the Municipality, and some have received similar support in the previous months within the year whilst others are yet to received their portion,” she said.
She said that a total number of 20 males and 22 females received the support, which would be supervised by the association leader to ensure the items were used for the rightful purposes.
Madam Kudoda explained to the GNA that every registered Person living with disability was entitled to benefit once from the government’s support until it reached all group members.
“We urged all families to get to the association and register any member who is living with disability and between ages of zero to sixty years or more and the person must be active as well.”
She commended and thanked Mr Emmanuel Gemegah, the outgoing Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and other hardworking assembly members for their various roles in ensuring all PWDs received support from the government to alleviate their plights.
She said the government was committed to ensuring equal opportunity and support to all regardless of the type or form of disability whilst others were also sponsored through various level of education.
She urged those who were yet to receive the support to exercise patience since every individual would be given equal attention and support at the appropriate time.
Madam Kudoda also appealed to all beneficiaries to make good use of the support for their own benefit.
Some other beneficiaries Ghana News Agency engaged after the exercise expressed excitement about the support and thanked the government for the kind gesture.
