Dambai (O/R), Dec. 1, GNA – Reverend Phanuel Kwaku Drah, District Minister of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Dambai, has acknowledged the importance of peace in democracy during and after elections.
Rev Drah said peace was a foundation of every democracy and it was not just the absence of conflict but also the presence of justice, understanding and unity.
Rev Drah made the remarks during a public lecture on the theme: “Building our capacity to be peacemakers before, during and after election, the role of stakeholders.”
He encouraged all stakeholders to commit to being peacemakers and to work towards ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
The lecture emphasized the crucial role that stakeholders, including religious leaders, civil society organisations and the media play in promoting peace and stability during the electoral process.
Rev Drah said peace was a collective responsibility and everyone had a role to play in ensuring that the upcoming elections were peaceful, free and fair.
Mr. Clement Kwasi Mamadu, the Krachi East Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said peace was essential for the development and growth of every nation and it was the responsibility of all citizens to ensure that peace prevailed during elections.
Mr Mamadu has been actively engaging with stakeholders, including traditional leaders, youth groups and community members to sensitise them on the importance of peace and tolerance in democratic governance.
The event, which was well-attended by stakeholders from different walks of life, provided a platform for leaders to emphasize the importance of peace in democratic governance.
The representatives, who included traditional leaders, religious leaders, officials from Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Students Union, ECG personnel and security agencies, took turns to deliver messages of peace and unity.
They encouraged citizens to promote tolerance, understanding and peaceful coexistence, particularly during this electioneering period.
