Paga (U/E), Dec 2, GNA- Paga Youth Movement, a youth-focused group in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, has initiated steps as part of efforts to promote peace among residents ahead of the December 7, 2024, general election.
As prelude to the elections the youth movement organised a series of filled-fun games, including sack races, tug of war, and Ludo, among others, to bring together residents of the local community and the Fulbe community.
Mr Wenawome Aborah, Chairman of the Paga Youth Movement, addressing the participants, underscored the need for peace ahead of the elections.
He indicated that peaceful coexistence was essential for development and called on the residents to set aside their differences and focus on the collective progress and general welfare of the community.
“Let us work together as a people because regardless of whichever political party wins power, the focus is the development of our community, and we must not see ourselves as enemies just because of this election and destroy what we already have in place,” he stated.
He called on the youth in the area not to allow themselves to be used to cause mayhem during the elections, emphasising that any negative effect on an individual, a family, or even a political party transcends to the entire community, and they must be restrained from acts that would hinder the development of the area.
The event culminated with a prayer from the Pentecostal Church at the Paga chief’s Palace with a call from religious leaders for peace before, during, and after the elections.
Pastor Nicholas Adimah of the Pentecost Church said it was important residents of the community developed Godly love for each other and not to see themselves as enemies just because they supported different political parties.
Pe Parekuli Aluah, Divisional Chief, Kazigu community, emphasised that as youth of the community, they were the future leaders and must conduct themselves in ways that would strengthen the peace of the community for sustainable development.
