Oti Region House of Chiefs congratulates President-Elect Mahama

Dambai (O/R), Dec. 30, GNA – The Oti Region House of Chiefs has congratulated President-elect, Mr John Dramani Mahama on his decisive win in the December 7, 2024, general elections.

In a statement signed by Nana Soglo Alloh IV, President of Oti Region House of Chiefs, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the House praised the chiefs said people of the region for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the elections.

The House also commended Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Flagbearer of New Patriotic Party for his democratic posture in conceding defeat, which helped reduce tension around the elections.

According to the statement, the House expressed sadness over pockets of violence that erupted after the concession, resulting in destruction of public properties and hostage-taking of public offices.

In particular, the House condemned the unprovoked attacked on Catholic priests stationed at Kpassa, who were providing social amenities to the community.

The statement called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute those involved in the attack.

While acknowledging President-Elect, the House urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) party leadership in the region to caution their members against violent acts, especially with the impending handover of power on January 7, 2025.

In the spirit of the season, the House wished residents of the region a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New year, reiterating their support for President-elect Mahama’s social contract for the chiefs and people of Oti Region.
