Tamale, Dec, 23, GNA – CSD Reform, an NGO, has held an inception meeting with stakeholders, the leadership of minority ethnic groups and the excluded in the northern part of the country.
It formed part of the implementation of the Promoting Actions to Address Vulnerabilities in Elections (PAVE) in Northern Ghana project.
The meeting was to increase participants’ understanding of the project framework, mobilise communities around the activities and recognise the contribution of minority ethnic groups to nation building by working to eliminate all forms of discriminatory practices against them.
Madam Killian Braimah, Project Officer at CSD Reform, speaking during the meeting in Tamale, said whilst the 2024 general election was generally peaceful, the skirmishes recorded in some constituencies called for more rigorous post-election engagements to seal cracks, restore broken relationships and secure peace and security.
The PAVE project, which was launched on December 03, this year, in partnership with Coastal States Stability Mechanism, seeks to enhance voter literacy, inclusion, peace, and resilience before, during, and after the 2024 general election in the northern part of the country.
It is being implemented in 27 communities in nine districts in three regions namely Gushegu, Karaga and Saboba in the Northern Region, Central Gonja, West Gonja and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba in the Savannah Region, and Chereponi, Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri and Yunyoo-Nasuan in the North East Region.
Madam Braimah said “CSD Reform is currently producing post-election messages designed to improve cohesion and will begin the dissemination in the next couple of days through the aid of audio-visual cinema van.”
Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, Council Member, Northern Region Peace Council, lauded CSD Reform and its partner for the initiative to help ensure security and inclusive development.
Mr Martin Konlan, Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District Director, National Commission for Civil Education, emphasised the need to involve all relevant stakeholders in the implementation of the project to ensure its success.
Chief Hamid Seidu, Chief of Fulanis in the Karaga Traditional Area, commended CSD Reform for the initiative saying it would go a long way to ensure societal cohesion whilst increasing productivity in communities.
