Orion Healthcare opens in Kumasi, promises to ensure healthier communities

Kumasi, Dec. 04, GNA – Orion Healthcare, a private health facility aiming to bring healthcare to the doorstops of community members, has begun operations in Kumasi.

The facility, with a 30-bed capacity has an intensive care unit, pediatric unit, maternity unit, gynecological unit, male and female wards, state of the art surgery areas and a well-stocked pharmacy, among others.

Dr. Darius Osei, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Health, at the official commissioning of the facility, indicated that private facilities complemented the healthcare needs of the country and said the new center would ease the burden on largest Ashanti Regional referral facility – Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

He said with the improvement in the National Health Insurance Scheme, Orion Healthcare, regardless of being a private facility, should take advantage to enhance equity in service delivery.

“It should not only be meant for the rich, but the poor must also have access to it.

This also ensures that there is an improvement in the health financing, taking advantage of the private health insurance, the national health insurance, and the corporate organizations,” he explained.

According to him, in the dimensions of quality care, the first thing was the geographical access of the facility to the people.

Dr Osei advised the new facility to exhibit efficiency in its operation.

Again, the hospital must pay attention to all elements in healthcare including registration, appointment scheduling, data management, laboratory management and drug management to have expertise to enhance value for money.

Mr. Ernest Kusi Ababio, Executive Chairman, Orion Healthcare, said with the existence of the hospital, the foundations of a healthier community would be built through routine checkups, life-saving surgeries, and emergency care.

He pointed out that healthcare was not just about advanced technology and modern facilities, but compassion, care, and commitment to the dignity of every person.

The Executive Chairman said healthcare was an ever-evolving field and must be made flexible, innovative, and committed to meeting the changing needs of the immediate communities.

Mr. Ababio pledged to continue to invest in training, technology, and patients’ center care, ensuring that the facility remains at the forefront of healthcare and excellence for years to come.
