Bunso (E/R), Dec. 03, GNA – The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has launched the 2024 Stay Alive Operation Comply Christmas and Election Campaign at Bunso in the Eastern Region.
Activities involved in the campaign launch were highway enforcement and sensitisation on road safety benefits, and it took place at Apedwa and Bunso junctions.
The NRSA did the activities together with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).
Madam Pearl Adusu Sateckla, Public Relations Officer of NRSA, said the Stay Alive Operation Comply Christmas and Election campaign aimed to maximise road safety benefits that reduced accidents, and ensure lives saving.
The road users including drivers, passengers and pedestrians were sensitised to speed limit, traffic signs, road markings, seat belt wearing, among others.
The PRO urged road users to improve positive behavioural change to curb the menace of road crashes.
Chief Superintendent Alexander Obeng, Director of Research, Education and Training, Police MTTD, said the Department had recorded 2,038 road crash death across the country and it was a matter of concern that needed to be well tackled.
He cautioned drivers to limit their speed on the road to save lives because over speeding resulted in road and vehicle crashes.
The Police would intensify traffic enforcement which was the most effective intervention to ensure observance and compliance with traffic rules by road users, he said.
He added that any violations would be penalized, consolidated with immediate sanctions.
Chief Superintendent Obeng said the Police had embarked on community traffic policing that engaged the public to raise awareness on bad practices that resulted in injuries and fatalities on roads.
This, he said, would contribute to ensuring accident free before, during and after elections and Christmas festivity.
Participants at the launching ceremony included transport operators from the Cooperative Transport Union, and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council.
