Accra, Dec 10, GNA – The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a warning that its members may be forced to defend themselves if the ongoing attacks allegedly perpetrated by individuals linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) do not cease immediately.
Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps in Accra, Mr Salam Mohammed Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser urged that the violent actions against its members and supporters which he described as “rampaging NDC youth” needed to stop to prevent further escalation.
He also expressed concern over the situation, stating that the constant attacks on NPP members could not continue unchecked.
Mr Mustapha, also the Director of Programmes at the Office of Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawmia, the Vice President further called on the NDC leadership to take swift action in addressing the behavior of their supporters.
“…I urge law enforcement agencies to ensure that peace is maintained in the post-election period,” he said.
Mr Mustapha’s remarks was necessitated following alleged heightened tensions post Ghana’s 2024 general elections, which saw Mr John Dramani Mahama emerged as President-elect.
As a result, various alleged reports of clashes and unrest were recorded after the polls, raising concerns about political stability and public safety in the country.
