Ho, Dec.2, GNA – Queues at the Volta Regional Office of the Electoral Commission have diminished as voters arrived early morning to cast their ballots in the special voting exercise.

The exercise is undertaken few days before the general election to enable security personnel, election officials, the media and other essential election workforce who would be on duty during the Election Day to vote.

There are three voting centres for the special exercise in the Ho Constituency, where a total of 1,559 expected to vote.

Some of the security personnel arrived as early as 0500 hours to participate in the process, which officially starts at 0700 hours and ends at 1700 hours.

The EC is operating three centres, and before noon, all queues had diminished, indicating early, speed voting.

Voters, who spoke to the GNA commended the smooth process, which took less than five minutes.

Mr Maxwell Awumah, the Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency, reported a two-minute turn-around process, and commended the EC officials for their effort.

Centre A has a total of 295 voters and by 1145 hours, while centre B and C have 292 and 280 special voters, respectively.

A total 8,708 are voting in the special event in the Volta Region.

Mr Eric Dzakpasu, the Regional Director of the EC, said 22 centres were operational for the exercise, with the Ho Municipal, Hohoe, and Ketu South constituencies operating multiple centers due to the large voter numbers.

He said polls opened at all centres at the scheduled 0700 hours, and commended the various stakeholders including political party observers for an incident- free event.

“There has been no challenges so far. Collaboration is top notch with security. It is going to be one of the very credible elections we will have in this country,” he said.
