Tamale, Dec 3, GNA – The Tolon District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged youth activists of political parties in the area to foster peaceful coexistence and prevent violent extremism, especially in this election year.
It formed part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, which is funded by the European Union.
Miss Hawawu Abdul Rahman, Tolon District Director of NCCE, speaking during the event at Tolon, underscored the need for all to desist from violence and other criminal activities regarding this year’s elections.
She expressed the need for community members to prioritise dialogue in settling disputes and grievances and urged them to cooperate with the security agencies to promote sustainable peace.
She said “Go and vote on the election day, leave the polling station after casting your vote. You can come after close of polls to witness the counting to avoid tension during the elections.”
Mr Adam Baba Muhiadeen, Chairperson, Inter-party Dialogue Committee, Tolon District, urged the youth to play an active role in sustaining the peace and stability of the country and said there could not be any meaningful development without peace.
