Kumasi, Dc.10, GNA – The Early Warning and Response Group of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, has condemned pockets of violence that occurred at some collation centers in the region, which disrupted the collation of results.

The Council particularly mentioned constituencies such as Asawase, Ahafo Ano North, Ahafo Ano South West, and Obuasi East, where collation was halted due to acts of violence.

A statement issued by the Council and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, called on the Ghana Police Service to expedite investigation into the incidents and bring culprits to book.

“This act of violence is condemned and calls on the security agencies to ensure persons found culpable are made to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement read.

The statement said it was regrettable that three persons died at Makranso and Akumadan due to election-related disturbances, casting a slur on Ghana’s democratic dispensation.

It congratulated winners in the election and all stakeholders who played diverse roles to ensure a successful election, while urging moderation in jubilation by supporters of the winners.

“As we prepare to welcome a new governing body, we need to respect the tenets of our constitution during the transition period and beyond.

It encouraged all citizens to be tolerant and respect the institutional structures and laid down procedures of the governance system,” the statement concluded.
