Wa, Dec. 27, GNA – The Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Ghana donated Christmas hampers to 30 nursing mothers at the Wa Municipal Hospital and the Saint Joseph Hospital at Jirapa.
Baby diapers and powder, detergent, soap, wipe, cream, dettol, washing powder, court sheets, and toys are some of the items in the hampers.
The nursing mothers delivered on Christmas and Boxing Day.
In all, 15 mothers gave birth at the Wa Municipal Hospital, which saw six babies (a girl and five boys) being born on Christmas Day.
Ten babies (five females and five males) were also born within the period of December 24 -26, through caesarean sections.
Madam Lucy Nere, a Senior midwife In-charge of the maternity Ward, made this known when officials of the MTN visited the hospital to present the items to the mothers.
Mr Seth Owusu Nyamekye, the Upper West Regional Manager of MTN, wished the babies and their mothers well and called for good upbringing of the children to contribute effectively to national development.
He said healthcare delivery had been a cardinal point in the operations of MTN hence the gifts to fulfill that desire.
The donation had been an annual practice of the company to meet the health needs of the newborn and their mothers, especially during Christmas, to bring them joy.
Madam Nere commended MTN for the gesture and called for more of such supports, especially equipment and consumables, to aid quality healthcare delivery.
She appealed to other corporate entities to emulate the gesture to support nursing mothers.
