Tamale, Dec 26, GNA – Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has distributed hampers to 21 new mothers, who delivered 23 babies on Christmas Day at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) in the Northern Region.
The hampers contained essential items such as diapers, wipes, toiletries, towels, toys, and cosmetics.
Two out of the 21 new mothers delivered twins; two boys, and a boy and a girl.
Twelve of the babies were delivered naturally (spontaneous vaginal delivery) whilst the rest were delivered through caesarean sections.
The distribution of hampers to new mothers, who delivered on Christmas Day, is an annual gesture by MTN Ghana to put smiles on the faces of the new mothers and their babies, an embodiment of the spirit of love and sharing associated with the Christmas season.
Mr. Aseye Kwame Akude, Regional Manager, Retail Experience at MTN Ghana, who led a team from MTN Ghana to distribute the hampers to the mothers at the facility on Thursday, said the gesture had become a cherished tradition of the company.
He said: “We believe that Christmas is a season of love and sharing, and that’s why we choose to distribute these hampers to new mothers on December 26.”
He said the distribution of hampers took place in 30 locations across the country, adding that over 3,000 hampers had been distributed to new mothers since the initiative began in 2011.
Madam Fauzia Adam, Senior Midwife in-charge of Labour Ward, TTH, commended MTN Ghana for its consistent support and kindness towards the new mothers and staff of the facility.
Madam Vivian Bukari, a new mother, who received a hamper, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for the gesture saying it had brought joy to her family.
She said: “I want to say a very big thank you to MTN for the lovely gifts you have given us. It made us so happy. Even though what we went through wasn’t an easy journey, as a mother, I am grateful for your kindness.”
Madam Sheriff Abdul Rahman, a new mother of twins, who underwent a cesarean section, also commended the company saying, “I am extremely grateful and thankful to MTN Ghana for your kindness and the love. You have truly put smiles on our faces, and for that, I am forever grateful.”
