Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe retains Keta parliamentary seat

Keta (VR), Dec 8, GNA – Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta constituency in the Volta Region, has retained the Keta parliamentary seat for the next four years.

He gathered 29,471 votes to beat his contender Mr Hope Courage Goldberg-Grimm Leketey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who also polled 2,850 during the parliamentary election in the constituency.

Other candidates, including Mr Yayra Kwashie Kwawu of the LP also had 1,030 votes and Mr Stanley Courage Dugah, an independent candidate had the 123 votes.

Mr Roger Kodzo Avorgbedor, the Returning Officer, who made the announcement, said that a total number of 33,695 votes were cast out of expected number of 50,677.

“We recorded 221 rejected ballots with a total number of valid votes been 33,474 in the constituency during the exercise,” he said.

He described the exercise as smooth, transparent, fair and free and commended the security agencies, political party agents and the public for various roles played in ensuring a successful exercise in the area.

Some party agent which include Mr Prosper Agbagli of the NPP,Mr Eric Godson Azasu of the LPG and Mr Dennis Yao Datsomor of the NDC, told the GNA that the exercise was smooth with no challenges.

Mr Gakpey, in his victory message, thanked the constituents for having hope and courage in him for another opportunity to represent the area for the next four years for more development projects.

“We have promised Ghanaians to reset this country to it normal state and we will not disappoint them, we believe in ourselves and President Mahama list an experienced driver,” he said.

Meanwhile, Former President John Dramani Mahama has also polled 30,995 votes with Dr Mahamadu Bawumia also gathering 2,141 whilst Nana Akosua Frimgpoma had 71 votes in the constituency.

Mr Daniel Augustus Lartey had 8 votes,Christian Kwabena Andrews with 11, Kofi Akpaloo with 16, Mohammed Frimgpong with 3,and Hassan Abdulai Ayariga 38, Kofi Koranteng,George Twum Barimah-Adu with 1 vote each.

Nana Kwame Dediako had 66 with Alan John Kodwo Kyeremanten with 55 votes whilst 324 rejected ballots were recorded in the presidential polls.

There were 33,406 total valid votes and 33,730 total valid votes cast recorded.

GNA also observed a group of NDC supporters clad in various party colours celebrating on the principal street of Keta township to express the joy over the victory.
