Monitoring elections is brain work, party agents

By Laudia Sawer

Tema, Dec. 03, GNA — Some party agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who observed the special voting exercise at the Tema West Constituency have stressed that monitoring of elections is brain work rather than violence.

The party agents were spotted by the Ghana News Agency comparing their figures of the number of voters who had cast their ballots to ensure that they have the same data.

Mr Robert Cudjoe, agent for the NPP, told the GNA that party agents should focus on their duties at the polling centres instead of engaging in violence against each other.

Mr Cudjoe stated that “Election monitoring is brain work, and this can only be achieved through proper training of the party agents rather than fighting,” he said.

Touching on the ongoing special voting, he said the activity was smooth, expressing the hope that the same friendly environment must be experienced during the general elections.

Mr Godfred Nii Okine, the NDC agent at the centre, also expressed similar views, noting that elections were about the expression of views, which does not make them enemies.

Mr Okine said the special voting exercise had been very orderly and smooth.

1,048 security personnel, media practitioners, and staff of the Electoral Commission who would perform electoral duties are participating in the special voting exercise at Tema West, held at the Tema Community Two police station.
