Aburi, Dec 8, GNA – Ms Lawrencia Adwoa Dziwonu, has captured the Akuapem-South seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after twenty years of the NPP winning the seat continuously.
In a fierce contest with Mr Eric Yeboah Apeadu, the NPP’s candidate who was widely tipped to win the contest, Ms Dziwonu, polled 15,434 votes to beat Mr Apeadu who polled 15,304 votes.
In the Presidential however, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia polled 16,516 votes, while NDC polled 13,232 votes, followed by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) 358 votes and Mr Alan Kyeremanteng had 71 votes with a total of 937 rejected ballots.
Dziwonu, first contested the seat in 2016 and polled 8,417 (31.62%) votes and lost to Mr O.B Amoah, the incumbent MP and former Deputy local government minister, who polled 14,049 (52.78%) votes.
